9th Annual Meeting of the European Forum of National Nursing and Midwifery Associations (EFNNMA), Copenhagen, Denmark, 2005

The 9th Annual Meeting addressed maternity, child and adolescent health with a focus on obesity, a key priority area of WHO/Europe. Three working groups discussed aspects of obesity that are of importance to nursing and midwifery. The agenda also provided an opportunity for technical discussions on a draft statement on maternity, child and adolescent health with a focus on obesity in line with the Munich Declaration.

Maternal, child and adolescent health with a focus on obesity
Because nurses and midwives focus on preventive activities in the community, they are well placed to put the evidence of obesity prevention into practice.
At the fifty-fifth session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe, the European Forum of National Nursing and Midwifery Associations (EFNNMA) presented a statement on maternal, child and adolescent health with a focus on obesity. It suggested that nurses and midwives help prevent obesity through health promotion and by helping obese people lose weight.
